The following is a list of the officers and members
of the Pines' management staff and a synopsis of their relevant
background and experience:
Edgar L. Muller -
President and Executive
Director. Mr. Muller has served as Executive Director of The Pines since
April 1988. Mr. Muller is licensed by the State of North Carolina as a
Nursing Home Administrator and oversees the daily operations of The
Pines. Prior to working with The Pines, he served as the Senior
Administrator of Health Services for the Methodist Retirement Homes in
Charlotte, N.C. for 7 years and as the Administrator of the Methodist
Retirement Community in Greenwood, South Carolina for 11 years.
Before
joining the Methodist Retirement Community, Mr. Muller worked for 3
years as Business Manager for the James C. Self Memorial Hospital in
Greenwood, South Carolina. He received a BA in Business Administration
from Fullerton State University and has served on the Boards of
Directors of the North Carolina Association of Non-Profit Homes for the
Aging and the North Mecklenburg Child Development Center. He is an Elder
of the Davidson College Presbyterian Church.
David C. Rainey -
Vice President, Assistant
Secretary and Director of Financial Services. Mr. Rainey is licensed by
the State of North Carolina as a Certified Public Accountant and has
served as The Pines' Director of Financial Services since May 1988.
Prior to working at The Pines, Mr. Rainey worked as a bank officer in
the Financial Accounting Services Department of First Union National
Bank for 3 years and as an auditor for Arthur Anderson & Company for
3 years. Mr. Rainey has a BA in Psychology from Davidson College and a
BS in Accounting from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He
has served in the Finance Committee of the Lake Norman YMCA and Davidson
College Presbyterian Church, and is a member of the North Carolina
Association of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute
of Certified Public Accountants. Mr. Rainey is an Assistant Scoutmaster
for Boy Scout Troop 58 in Davidson.
Kimberly Alkire –
Director of Health Services. Mrs. Alkire is licensed by the state of
North Carolina as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She recently joined The
Pines at Davidson, having served as a nurse practitioner in women’s
health. Her work history includes trauma and intensive care nursing at
Carolinas Medical Center and Hospice and oncology nursing at Presbyterian
Hospital in Charlotte. From 1999 to 2001, she served as nurse manager for
The Pines.
Mrs. Alkire is a graduate of UNC-Charlotte, with a
bachelor’s degree in nursing, and later a master’s degree in nursing, with
concentration as a family nurse practitioner. She is a member of the
North Carolina Nurses Association and the Metropolitan Association of
Nurse Practitioners. She is certified by the American Nurses
Credentialing Center as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
Mrs. Alkire volunteers at a freestanding clinic
providing medical care for the indigent. She has also been a Habitat for
Humanity volunteer. She has served as a clinical preceptor for students
in the undergraduate and graduate nursing programs at UNC-Charlotte and
East Carolina University.
Patti Goodwin -
Nurse Manager. Mrs. Goodwin is
licensed by the State of North Carolina as a Registered Nurse and has
been employed at The Pines at Davidson since January 2001. Prior to
joining The Pines at Davidson, Mrs. Goodwin was at the Abernathy Center,
United Church Retirement Homes, Inc. in Newton, North Carolina. She had
been employed there for 11 years as nursing supervisor, assistant DON,
and Director of Nursing for 3 years. Mrs. Goodwin received her BS in
Nursing from UNC-Chapel Hill. She has worked as a clinical instructor
for Lenoir-Rhyne College and is a member of the Lenoir-Rhyne Nursing
School Advisory Council. Mrs. Goodwin is a member of the North Carolina
Nurses Association and the American Nurses Association.
Nancy Waite-Kahn -
Director of Wellness and
Social Services. Ms.
Waite-Kahn has served in this capacity at The Pines since August 2002.
Prior to coming to The Pines, Ms Waite-Kahn worked as a social
worker for Hospice of Cabarrus County and at the Kate B. Reynolds
Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. Before joining these Hospices, Ms.
Waite-Kahn had extensive experiences with the Veterans Administration,
serving in a variety of social work and leadership capacities in VA
Medical Centers in Augusta, GA, West Haven, CT and Dayton, OH.
She also served as field supervisor/instructor for social work
and medical students from the Universities of CT, IN, Dayton and Wright
State University.
Ms. Waite-Kahn received her BA degree from The College of
Wooster, Wooster, Ohio and her Masters in Social Work from Florida State
University. She is a member of the National Association of Social
Workers and The Academy of Certified Social Workers.
She is an Elder in the Presbyterian Church USA and
a
member of Davidson College
Presbyterian Church.
C. Michael Holthouser -
Director of Plant
Services. Mr. Holthouser is a graduate of North Carolina State
University where he received a BS degree in Horticulture. Prior to
joining The Pines in June 1988, he was owner and manager of Holthouser
Landscaping and Construction in Sanford, North Carolina. His
responsibilities at The Pines include supervising maintenance,
housekeeping, grounds, security, and any on-going construction. Mr.
Holthouser is an Elder of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and currently
attends the Davidson College Presbyterian Church. He serves as the
Chairman of the Scholarship Endowment for Mooresville Senior High
School, and is a Counselor for Juvenile Corrections of Mecklenburg County,
North Carolina.
James E. Irvin -
Director of Marketing and
Development. Mr. Irvin has served as The Pines' Director of Marketing
and Development since March 1989. Prior to joining The Pines, Mr. Irvin
worked for over six years in marketing retirement communities with
Retirement Communities of America, Basic American Retirement
Communities, Inc. and Eagle Landing, a retirement community near
Charleston, South Carolina.
Mr. Irvin has been licensed as a real estate
broker in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Colorado. He has served as
General Sales Manager and Broker-in-Charge of general real estate
brokerage firms which were either privately or corporately owned. He
holds the designation of Graduate of Realtors Institute and has been a
member of State and National Realtor Associations. Mr. Irvin has
attended numerous courses, seminars, and workshops on sales and
marketing, and has served on the Education Committee of the N.C.
Association of Non-Profit Homes for the Aged. He majored in Sociology
while attending North Texas State University at Denton, Texas, and
served in Vietnam with the U.S. Marine Corps.
Douglas J. Polmann -
Director of Culinary and
Dining Services. Mr. Polmann has served as Director of Culinary and
Dining Services for The Pines since January 2001. Prior to joining The
Pines, Mr. Polmann served as Executive Chef for Oak Lane Country Club in
Woodbridge, Connecticut for 21 years. Mr. Polmann is certified as a
Certified Executive Chef by the American Culinary Federation and has
been inducted into the American Academy of Chefs.
Motria Procyk -
Director of Development.
Motria Procyk joined The Pines as the Director of Development in 2006. Prior to moving to Davidson, Motria worked for ten years as a fund raiser at the Columbia University School of Law in New York City, where she served as Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations, Associate Director of Development, and Director of the Capital Campaign, helping to raise $150 million for academic programs and the renovation and expansion of the Law School campus. Earlier, she served as Assistant Director of Corporate Relations at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York during its capital campaign and helped to set up the first development office at The School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University. After moving to Davidson, Motria worked for five years at the Davidson Center for Learning as a tutor and teacher and coordinated the opening celebration of the Alvarez College Union at Davidson College.
Motria has a B.A. in English from Wesleyan University and an M.A. in Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. She is a member of Davidson College Presbyterian Church and a parent volunteer at several area schools.
